People are experiencing music in more ways than ever before. How does that lead to income for a songwriter, artist, and/or publisher? These experts break down the money mystery so you will understand it and know how to navigate and negotiate in today's music business. Dan Keen has years of experience with ASCAP. Leah Bernstein is President of The Mountain Apple Company. Eric Lagrimas is a Hawai'i-based touring musician with hard-earned real-world skills in marketing and management.

Aloha Tower Waterfront Stage
On the waterfront stage, in concert-great songs sung by great writers: Disney duo Adam Watts and Andy Dodd, urban hitmaker Kristal Oliver, country award-winner Craig Wiseman, versatile million-seller Dennis Matkosky, joined by leading Hawai'i singer-songwriters.
Workshop participants will receive a concert ticket as part of their conference fee. Additional tickets will be available at the conference registration table on Friday morning for $20 each. And tickets will be available for sale at 6 p.m. at the Waterfront at Aloha Tower on Friday evening.

As a creator of music, you have rights under the law. It is essential to understand your rights-what they are, how to establish them, how to protect them, how to monitor them. WITH MANU BOYD AND FRIENDS
In Hawai'i, where tradition is the wellspring of creativity, and music flows through time, Hawaiian-language songwriting keeps renewing itself. Join Manu Boyd of Ho'okena, Brother Noland, and Puakea Nogelmeier, who writes for Keali'i Reichel, to talk about the special joys and challenges of creative authenticity in our day.

CONTEMPORARY SONGS OF THE ISLANDS - PARTICIPANTS SHOWCASE
Registered workshop participants can submit a song, which may be chosen to be performed at an evening showcase. For showcase rules, see workshop details.
Showcase Requirements:
- Only one (1) submission per registrant.
- Must be original composition.
- Composition must be 5 minutes or less.
- Registrations and song submissions must be received no later than Friday, June 26 to be considered for the Contemporary Song of the Islands Participants' Showcase on Saturday, July 11.

Collaboration can be a way to expand and enrich your songwriting experience. This is a great chance for each of you to find a creative partner-and for all of you to be in on the start of building a thriving songwriting community here in Hawai'i.

INDIVIDUAL SONG CRITIQUES
In small groups, participants can benefit immensely from interaction with an accomplished professional, learning hands-on how to develop a song idea, how to fine-tune melody and lyrics-teaching craft by example.
